A profound analysis of territories, cultures, and materials to design expressive and unique objects (Italy)

THE ZOO

TIPSTUDIO is part of the 13 designers selected for ZOO’s inaugural temporary exhibition.

ZOO _Hub spaces are concept stores and galleries, serving as a global showcase capable of narrating untold stories. Periodically, the ZOO team will curate exhibitions and collectives that traverse the broad discourse surrounding contemporary design.

Disrupted Stability,
in collaboration with Studio F.

Charred larch wood

The effects of our actions disrupt and destabilize time and space, challenging both the ecosystem and man’s connection to nature.

TIPSTUDIO, in collaboration with STUDIO F, presents a new collection which highlights the deleterious relationship between mankind and the environment through the exploration of natural wood. Each object is made out of larch wood that was collected from rescued trees which had fallen after a natural disaster.

The project relates the solidity of larch wood with its most intimate, fragile core, revealing different stages of the material. The corroded surfaces confer an apparent instability to the object while simple structures give it lightness, creating an effect of structural inversion. Disrupted Stability is at once a physical presence and an ephemeral line. Different layers of wood provide a sensory exploration. The individual is called to interact with the objects so as to enter into a symbiotic relationship with Nature’s temporal, destructive, and generative cycles.

Secondo Fuoco

Bronze and fusion slag

Secondo Fuoco investigates smelting slags as a reflection on the multiple souls of matter: the minerals reclaimed by the smelting process are juxtaposed with man-made artificiality.

TIPSTUDIO, in collaboration with the Fonderia Artistica Versiliese, designed a sculptural and material collection which unites the impurity of residual mineral extracts with the purity of bronze entitled Secondo Fuoco

In the foundry field, slag is identified as a solidified, foamy mass that floats on the surface of molten metal and is often composed of aluminum and calcium silicates, rock components, and metal oxides derived from the melting process.lags are first cataloged by typology and morphology; they are then trimmed, milled to different grain sizes, and agglomerated with wax. During the “second fire,” the lost wax casting process is employed to create new and unique objects. These functional and material sculptures each contain their material inverse, their exact opposite. The result is a casted self-supporting surface where slags are engulfed in the bronze that acts as a binder and structural element, enhancing the works’ spontaneity and material interrelation.

“We have always been attracted by the foamy masses that emerge from molten metal. They are like islands whose indigenous flora fascinates and intrigues.”

About TIPSTUDIO

ZOO is a container of stories, objects, events, talents, and culture.
